The format decides more than the operator: who flies with you, where you land, and how the price is counted.
You fly with other passengers in a shared or small-group helicopter. The operator fixes the itinerary. Most Everest listings work this way.
The helicopter flies only your group, on a private group tour. The booking page shows if the price is for one person or for the whole helicopter.
Each pick suits one way of seeing Everest. The table further down lists every flight.
You share the helicopter with other passengers and stop at Lukla, Pheriche and Syangboche below Hotel Everest View, where breakfast costs extra. The listing names the fees to pay on the day.
A shared seat with Kala Patthar and Everest Base Camp on the itinerary, then Hotel Everest View on the way back down.
A private chartered helicopter for your group, with a guaranteed landing at Kala Patthar named on the listing. Government permits and breakfast at Hotel Everest View are not included.
Pick how you want to fly and what matters most. You get one flight with its landings and weight limit, plus alternatives.

From the Viator listings, checked in November 2026. Fees and weight limits are given as the listing states them; kilograms are converted. The length of the whole trip is the operator's figure.
Most reviews praise the views, the landing points and the pilots. The critical ones are about organisation and seats: a wait at the airport without explanation and no briefing on one helicopter flight, and a stop that ran longer than the itinerary said.
“everything is on schedule. The tour is safe. The view is amazing. Recommend to go. Thanks.”
“… I didn't plan on trekking the Everest Base Camp trail, so it's a great option for those who what to see region from the air. Our pilot was excellent …”
“… This experience was great but the execution on behalf of the team running it was very poor. … Upon arrival to the airport, we were delayed for our trip by an estimated 55 minutes - we never really were notified or told why. There was zero safety protocol or briefings in regards to our helicopter or our trip prior to our departure. … Stopping at a destination/hotel for 2.5 hours longer than anticipated/directed in the itinerary after it is too late to request a refund is unacceptable.”
“What an amazing experience!! … This excursion was fantastic! Great weather, great flying, great breakfast!”
Real traveller reviews from Viator.
A shared seat is sold per person and follows a fixed itinerary. A private helicopter carries only your group; the booking page shows if its price is per person or for the whole helicopter. Weight limits, landings and how you want to spend the time at the stops decide which one suits you.
Compare shared and privateMost Everest helicopter listings carry almost the same title. What separates them sits further down each page: the landing points, the seat type, the fees on the day and the weight limit. We collect those details for every flight and show the price you would pay at checkout. When you book through a link on this page, the booking platform pays us a commission. It comes out of their margin, not out of your price.
The current starting price of every flight is in the comparison table on this page. A seat in a shared helicopter is sold per person. For the private flights the listings do not say if the price covers one person or the whole helicopter, so check the option on the booking page before you pay. Several listings also name national park and other fees that you pay on the day, on top of the online price.
Not all of them, even when the title says Base Camp. Some itineraries list Kala Patthar and Everest Base Camp, others stop lower at Pheriche or at Syangboche below Hotel Everest View. Most itineraries also list Lukla on the way up. The fact sheet on this page shows the landing points each listing names. A mountain flight by plane does not land at all.
Everest flights go only when the weather allows it, so departures can be delayed or moved. Plan a spare day in Kathmandu after your flight date. The helicopter flights on this site can be cancelled free of charge up to 24 hours before departure. What happens when the operator cancels because of the weather is set out in the terms on the booking page; read them before you book.
That depends on the flight. Listings name national park fees or permits, an airport tax, a Khumbu fee or the entry fee of the Khumbu Rural Municipality. Breakfast at Hotel Everest View costs extra on some flights. The fact sheet shows what each listing says. Where a listing says nothing, ask the operator before you fly.
Yes, on the shared and small-group flights: each of these listings names a limit per passenger, and the limits differ from flight to flight. The private group tours do not state one, so ask before you book. Check the fact sheet before you choose a flight, especially if someone in your group is close to a limit.
In a shared helicopter you buy one seat and fly with other passengers on the itinerary the operator sets. In a private helicopter only your group is on board. Most Everest listings, and nearly all with traveller reviews, are shared or small-group flights. Our page on shared and private flights compares both, including landings, fees and who each format suits.
Yes, if seeing Everest matters more than standing in the Khumbu. The sightseeing plane flies from Kathmandu along the Himalaya and back without landing, so there is no Kala Patthar and no breakfast at Hotel Everest View. One of the plane flights on this site guarantees a window seat.
